Exciting program along with safety measures at Expo 2020 Dubai
Attendance at Expo 2020 Dubai continues to grow significantly, rising to 8,067,012 in the period to 27 December.
Strict COVID-19 security measures in place at the Expo are designed to protect everyone on the site and include the mandatory wearing of masks – indoors and outdoors. Facilities may also be temporarily closed for deep cleaning and disinfection in response to positive cases identified through extensive workforce testing protocols, as well as for maintenance, private events and staff shortages.
Expo 2020 celebrated Christmas last week with a series of special events, with thousands of visitors safely enjoying the festivities.
Visitors and performers showed collective responsibility in the face of heightened health concerns. Academy and Grammy award-winning composer A.R. Rahman, during a special concert on December 22, thanked the audience for their responsibility and urged everyone to wear masks – a message repeated on Christmas Day by award-winning actress and singer Lea Salonga and world-renowned singer and pianist Joe Stilgow.
On 24 December the Holy See held a prayer for humanity, award-winning Lebanese singer Tania Cassis and the Festival Choir performed a special carol, and the UK’s most successful gospel choir London Community Gospel Choir and American soul artist Naya Izumi delighted audiences.
The next seven days promise many more events with a special focus on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Helping visitors welcome 2022 will be two of the world’s biggest DJs – Dimitri Vegas, who will be performing at Jubilee Park from 23.30 GMT, and Armin Van Buren, the ultra-famous producer of electronic music, who will be performing from 01.30 GMT.
Numerous Arabic, Filipino and Indian DJs will also perform on New Year’s Eve, and there will be a ‘ball drop’ at Al Wasl Plaza at midnight, as well as two separate fireworks displays at midnight and 03.00 GST.
The Dubai Metro will operate continuously throughout New Year’s Eve so that every Expo 2020 visitor can enjoy the world-class experience on offer and get home safely.
