Dubai Metro Music Festival to take place March 16-22
Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Dubai Government Media Office (GDMO), in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), today announced that the Dubai Metro Music Festival will again take place from March 16 to 22.
During the week-long celebration of world music, Dubai Metro stations will be stages for live musical performances by local, regional and international musicians representing a variety of musical genres. The festival is part of the ongoing #DubaiDestinations campaign to highlight exceptional experiences, events and activities within the #DubaiArtSeason.
An eclectic lineup of 20 musicians will perform at five Dubai metro stations – Expo 2020 Dubai, Jebel Ali, Mall of the Emirates, Burjuman and Union – from 4pm to 10pm.
Rowdah Al Mehrizi, director of marketing and corporate communications for RTA’s corporate administrative support services sector, said: “The Roads and Transportation Authority is pleased to partner with Brand Dubai to introduce music lovers to the second edition of the Dubai Metro Music Festival, which promises another great celebration of music from around the world. We continue to work with partners like Brand Dubai to improve the platform offered by the city for art and music to flourish, and to enrich the creative environment in the city by making the world’s performing arts more accessible to the public. The metro stations, which represent the world’s best transportation infrastructure, serve as beautiful stages not only to showcase the best of world music, but also to highlight Dubai’s identity and values.”
“This initiative is part of a series of collaborative projects we have undertaken in collaboration with Brand Dubai to promote culture, art, creativity, heritage and aesthetic appreciation in the city in new and unique ways. We continue to strive to build strong collaborative relationships with leading stakeholders and institutions to implement initiatives that enhance the perception of Dubai by residents and visitors to the city,” she added.
Shaima Al Suwaidi, city branding manager at Brand Dubai, said: “The Metro Music Festival represents the quintessential spirit of cultural diversity and inclusivity that is at the heart of Dubai’s ethos. In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai one of the world’s best cities to live and visit, the festival will add a unique note of creativity and beauty to the pulse of urban life. The festival brings together the region’s and the world’s most innovative musicians to connect with audiences, enriching the experience for residents and visitors to Dubai and allowing them to connect with the city in new ways. The festival is a celebration of the creativity, cosmopolitanism and openness that make Dubai one of the most culturally dynamic metropolises in the world.”
“We are thrilled to renew our partnership with the RTA to host the Dubai Metro Music Festival to offer the city’s residents a unique cultural experience embedded in the city’s daily life. We expect the second edition of the festival, first launched in 2019, to become even more popular with metro passengers and music lovers. The festival also aims to further raise Dubai’s profile on the global cultural map as a center where artists and musicians from around the world can showcase their talent,” she said.
The vibrant lineup of musicians at the festival includes traditional and experimental performers, street artists, classical instrumentalists and fusion musicians who are considered some of the most talented artists shaping the future of music in their countries.
Performances at the festival, which include innovative instruments and unusual musical styles of both traditional and non-traditional genres of music, are expected to resonate with audiences. All performances will alternate throughout the seven days of the festival to cover five metro stations.
