Tesla Model 3 to join Dubai Taxi fleet
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that the Tesla Model 3 has been added to Dubai Taxi Corporation’s taxi fleet on a trial basis, following the huge success of operating 172 Tesla vehicles in the limousine service since 2017. The trial operation is aimed at testing the vehicle’s efficiency when used in a taxi fleet in the emirate.
“The use of Tesla electric vehicles in Dubai’s taxi fleet is an exceptional experience that contributes to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai’s Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative. It also supports the Dubai government’s energy and low-carbon strategy to make Dubai a role model in energy efficiency and carbon reduction,” said H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, CEO, Chairman of RTA’s Board of Executive Directors.
“In 2017, RTA began operating 172 Tesla vehicles as part of Dubai Taxi’s limousine fleet consisting of 80 Tesla Model S, 50 Tesla Model X and 42 Tesla Model 3. These vehicles have recorded positive operational efficiencies, especially in terms of zero carbon emissions and high customer satisfaction ratings.
“The success of this experiment encourages us to expand the use of electric vehicles as part of Dubai Taxi’s fleet in the coming years. This supports the initiative to convert 90% of Dubai’s limousine fleet to eco-friendly vehicles (hybrid/electric) by 2026. This initiative is the first of its kind in the world to semi-total transformation of limousines into eco-friendly vehicles,” commented Al Tayer.
It is noteworthy that the use of Tesla vehicles as part of Dubai Taxi’s fleet has received a wide response from partners and customers. They are engaged around the clock to service all events and hotspots across the emirate, especially at Dubai’s airports where DTC operates the largest Tesla fleet in the UAE.
