GoChat Messenger: free voice and video-call app from Etisalat

Mobile operator Etisalat has launched a new free mobile app, GoChat Messenger, which allows voice and video calls and includes a number of additional useful features. The app can be downloaded from the Apple and Google Play stores.

The app’s chat is similar to WhatsApp: one tick indicates that a message has been sent, two ticks indicate it has been delivered, and two coloured ticks indicate that the message has been read. Messages and calls are “protected by end-to-end encryption”.

Messages sent abroad take a few seconds longer to be delivered than local messages. Voice messages are recorded when the recording icon is held down. Video calls work over Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology.

Etisalat clarified that alternative internet telephony platforms, including Botim, C’Me and HiU, will continue to operate in the UAE, as will software from Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. GoChat video calling works with high quality picture and sound with a good internet signal.

GoChat Messenger can be downloaded for free, there is no subscription fee and allows users in the UAE and other countries to make free voice and video calls anywhere in the world. You only need to provide your mobile number to register.

The application allows users to read the news, book PCR tests at home, as well as home cleaning services and beauty salon services. Flight and hotel booking services will also be available soon. The e-wallet function allows you to make international and local money transfers.
