Kandura Rally in Dubai Digital Park
More than 100 supercars and muscle cars raced through Dubai Digital Park on Saturday night as part of a new car event – the Kandura Rally.
The Kandura Rally, held in partnership with the Emirates Motorsports Organisation, describes itself as ‘the coolest car event where style meets luxury and adventure’ and invites male participants to wear traditional clothing, or kandura.
The parade began at 6pm at the Dubai Autodrome, then went past landmarks such as the Museum of the Future and Meydan Bridge before ending at Dubai Silicon Oasis with a family-friendly event.
The inaugural event was attended by many big names in the automotive industry, as well as big names such as Tony Keyrouse and YouTuber Rashed Belhasa, known as Money Kicks.
Dozens of cars and motorbikes took part in the event. Hummers, Porsche, Mini Coopers, Maseratis and Mustangs were lined up for spectators to admire, along with some classic cars. Dubai Police cars were also on display.
There were also many modified cars. An award-winning Dodge Challenger SRT8 in Joker style was on display, as well as an Avatar-style car with the film’s title written in bright lights on the front and a Mad Max-style truck and ‘horror car’ with disco balls in the back and Grim Reaper puppets alongside.
One Volkswagen Golf GTI attracted attention as it was covered in bloody handprints and red splatter.
The event also featured a competition with prizes worth AED 25,000. Dodge’s Joker-style car won the Best Airbrushed Car prize and first place in the Modified Sedan category, while Keiruz’s Jeep Gladiator IronSide also won the grand prize.
Islam Hammad, owner of the first wide-bodied Maserati GT in the Gulf, or Maserati Mean Machine, won the award for Best Supercar.
Another highlight of the event was a performance by children from RK Dance Studio, partners of the International Academy of Indian Cinema Awards.
Pragna Vaya, manager-director of organiser Orbit Events and Promotions, says it is “the first of many to come” and that the Kandura Rally aims to be “the premier event for all motorsport enthusiasts living in Dubai”.
The Kandura will be the ultimate expression of pure automotive excellence. It will showcase the true spirit of Dubai and celebrate the city’s automotive heritage and its penchant for the glamorous lifestyle.
