Etihad Rail announces “door-to-door service” for train passengers
Passengers on Etihad Rail, the national rail network of the United Arab Emirates, will be provided with door-to-door transport to reach their final destination in comfort, said Ahmed Al Musawa Al Hashemi, executive director of Etihad Rail’s passenger traffic sector.
He noted that public transport will be available to tourists to take them to railway stations, including trams, buses and rental cars. Car parking facilities will also be available at the stations.
The passenger railway will connect 11 cities and towns in the UAE and will carry millions of passengers by 2030. The first passenger station will be located on the east coast, in the emirate of Fujairah.
Passengers will be able to reach Abu Dhabi from Fujairah in 100 minutes, from Abu Dhabi to Dubai in 50 minutes and from Abu Dhabi to Al Ruwais in 70 minutes. Passenger trains will stop in Al Mirfa, Al Daid, Sharjah, Dubai and other cities.
The trains will offer a variety of amenities and entertainment, including infotainment systems, charging stations for mobile devices, snacks and drinks, advanced air conditioning and comfortable seats in first, business and economy class.
In March 2022, the United Arab Emirates inaugurated a section of the Etihad Rail linking Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The railway is one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects, which aims to further develop the national economy.
The 256km Tarif – Al Awir main line has been designed to the highest international standards and includes 29 bridges, 60 crossings and 137 drainage channels. In the future, the new section will be connected to the integrated national railway network in the UAE.
