Dubai can become the plastic surgery capital
Dubai could become an international hub for medical tourism and plastic surgery, with the market expected to reach US$ 58.78 billion (global) by 2028.
In recent years, the aesthetic medicine industry has emerged as an important driver for medical tourism in the UAE. For example, cosmetic surgery is one of the top five most popular procedures among medical tourists travelling to the Emirate.
The annual global congress of the International Confederation of Societies of Plastic Surgery (ICOPLAST), which will bring together world-renowned facelift specialists and surgery experts, will be held in Dubai from May 5-7, 2023.
The event is expected to attract more than 1,500 delegates from 60 international societies and guests from over 112 countries. Plastic surgeons, aesthetic and anti-ageing doctors, medical students, nurses and industry leaders will meet to discuss innovations in medicine.
The global cosmetic surgery market is expected to grow from US$ 46.02 billion in 2021 to US$ 58.78 billion in 2028, despite the global impact of COVID-19.
According to the Medical Tourism Index ranking for 2020-2021, Dubai was ranked sixth in the world as the city offering the best medical services for tourists. The ranking was compiled by the International Healthcare Research Centre.
The study assessed indicators such as the health tourism industry, attractiveness of the destination and quality of medical care – in 46 cities around the world.
The medical tourism sector is expected to grow by another 25% in the next 10 years. Canada tops the list, followed by Singapore, Japan, Spain and the United Kingdom.
