1 Billion Meals: UAE residents invited to join initiative
The people of Dubai have been invited to take part in the 1 Billion Meals charity initiative, traditionally held during the holy month of Ramadan to help the needy around the world. The campaign is spearheaded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The campaign 1 Billion Meals is the largest of its kind, and aims to eradicate hunger in different parts of the world. It welcomes donations from individuals, government organisations, private sector businesses and individual philanthropists.
Donations can be made through the organisation’s website, SMS, bank transfer and the DubaiNow mobile app. The charity food fund can be contacted by calling the toll-free number 800 9999.
Donations by bank transfer can be sent to the company’s current account at Emirates NBD (account number: AE30 0260 0010 1533 3439 802). You can also send an SMS with the word food to the following Du and Etisalat numbers: 1034 for AED 10, 1035 for AED 50, 1036 for AED 100 and 1038 for AED 500.
In the DubaiNow app, the 1 Billion Meals Endowment campaign can be found under the relevant donation tab. The global initiative aims to create food security for low-income people around the world.
The campaign aims to support vulnerable groups, especially those affected by natural disasters and conflicts, and to eradicate hunger, and is aligned with the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
In 2022, Pavel Durov, the founder of the messenger Telegram, joined the 1 Billion Meals initiative, becoming a citizen of the United Arab Emirates. “The world is on the verge of a global food crisis. Hundreds of millions of people are starving,” Pavel Durov wrote in his Telegram channel. – “Hopefully, in the years to come, many more people will join this initiative and we can collectively achieve the Zero Hunger goal set by the UN.”
