World Padel League to take place in Dubai
World Padel champions will take part in the inaugural World Padel League to be held in Dubai from 8 to 11 June 2023. Organised with the support of the Dubai Sports Council and in collaboration with the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) and Dubai Calendar, the tournament will take place at the Coca-Cola Arena.
Nicknamed ‘The Greatest Show on Court’, the World Padel League tournament will feature 24 of the sport’s biggest names competing in a unique four-team format – Jaguars, Panthers, Tigers and Cheetahs.
Among the players competing in the tournament are Alejandra Salazar Bengoechea and Gemma Triay, who are ranked number one in the world, and Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaria, who are ranked third. Other notable players include Agustin Tapia, ranked third in the men’s division, and Arturo Coelho, ranked fourth. Also competing are Carlos Daniel Gutierrez, ranked 5th, and Beatriz Gonzalez and Marta Ortega, ranked 5th in the women’s division. For four days, these top players will showcase their skills in intense matches, providing non-stop action and entertainment for the fans.
In addition to the exciting Padel matches, the World Padel League will also feature three spectacular concerts featuring world-renowned artists. On June 8, Emirati singer Shamma Hamdan, a rising star in the world of Haliji music and the first Emirati woman to make it to the finals of Arabs Got Talent, will take to the stage to thrill music fans. British soul and pop band Simply Red will make their long-awaited return to Dubai after a 20-year hiatus when they perform at the tournament on June 9. With ten Top 10 UK Singles Chart hits to their credit, Simply Red’s performance is sure to be an unforgettable experience. On June 11, award-winning Bollywood songwriter, composer and performer Mithun will take to the stage. He will be joined by Indian playback singers Javed Ali, Mohammed Irfan, Asiz Kaur, Abhishek Nailwal, Nakash Aziz and Vishal Mishra and the evening will be filled with the loudest Bollywood hits of the last decade.
The World Padel League, which is set to cement Dubai’s status as a global sports hub, is being organised by the same team that masterminded the successful World Tennis League from December 19 to 24, 2022. The World Padel League will be co-hosted by print partner Gulf News, radio partner Channel 4 Network and supported by Emirates NBD.
