UAE to launch luxury passenger train
The United Arab Emirates will launch a luxury passenger train in the style of the Orient Express. For this purpose, national rail operator Etihad Rail will collaborate with the Italian company Arsenale Group, specialising in VIP travel.
The 15-car train train is planned to run from Fujairah to Abu Dhabi. Travellers will visit Dubai and take in the sights of Oman and the Liwa Desert. The carriages will reflect both Emirati heritage and Italian craftsmanship and know-how in their design.
The UAE will be one of the first countries in the world where Arsenale will launch luxury rail tours. A similar project, incidentally, is planned to be launched in Saudi Arabia – a luxury train will start running between Riyadh and Quraiyat in 2025.
The Etihad Rail national railway, which was completed in the United Arab Emirates in February 2023, went into commercial operation in May. The railway network will eventually connect the UAE with the rest of the Persian Gulf.
Passenger trains are expected to travel at 200 kilometres per hour and carry around 400 people at a time. The passenger railway will connect 11 cities and towns in the UAE. The first passenger station will be located on the east coast, in the emirate of Fujairah.
It will take passengers 100 minutes to reach Abu Dhabi from Fujairah, 50 minutes from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and 70 minutes from Abu Dhabi to Al Ruwais. The passenger trains will stop in Al Mirfa, Al Dhaid, Sharjah, Dubai and other cities.
The trains will offer various amenities and entertainment including infotainment systems, charging stations for mobile devices, snacks and drinks, advanced air-conditioning system and comfortable seats in first, business and economy class.
