Sheikh Zayed Festival opening date announced in Abu Dhabi
The iconic Sheikh Zayed Festival will kick off in Abu Dhabi on 17 November 2023. The organising committee said the celebration will run until March 9, 2024. As per tradition, the event will be held in the Al Wathba neighbourhood in the UAE capital.
The festival will offer Emirati residents and visitors a grand programme with many cultural, entertainment, social and sporting events.
The cultural event will be held under the patronage of the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and under the leadership of the Vice President, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The organising committee said that all activities within the festival will aim to preserve national heritage, pass on cultural values to future generations and enhance Abu Dhabi’s status as a leading destination for cultural tourism and leisure.
The committee did not reveal details of this year’s planned events. Some of the highlights of past festivals include laser shows, fireworks, national dances and duels, camel races, performances and Arabian horse shows.
The annual heritage festival is named after its founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and is one of the UAE’s most prominent cultural and heritage events.
For many years now, the festival has been breaking world records in terms of visitor numbers. For example, in 2019, the number of visitors to Sheikh Zayed Festival totalled over 1 million.
