McDonald’s opens restaurant of the future in UAE

McDonald’s UAE has joined forces with Schneider Electric to upgrade its flagship restaurant in Dubai. The introduction of energy-saving technologies and solutions will save up to 20 per cent of energy consumption in the restaurant of the future.

As part of this collaboration, McDonald’s UAE intends to utilise Schneider Electric’s innovations in 10 new branches across the country. The solutions are estimated to help the restaurant chain reduce its carbon footprint through the use of renewable energy by an average of 30 per cent.

The Umm Suqeim 2 branch, which is partly solar-powered, is equipped with electric vehicle (EV) charging ports, a smart grid for energy optimisation and an integrated building management system for real-time information to improve energy efficiency.

Waleed Fakih, CEO of McDonald’s UAE, said the company’s efforts to save energy and benefit our planet are crucial to the chain’s operations in the UAE. Starting with the launch of a restaurant in Umm Suqeim 2, the company is committed to putting smart energy plans into action, and utilising Schneider Electric’s extensive experience in energy management to reduce its carbon footprint nationwide.

Ahmed Hashan, president of Schneider Electric for the GCC, added that working on this joint landmark project as part of the ‘Year of Sustainable Development’ demonstrates a fruitful collaboration that unlocks the potential of digital transformation and its nationwide impact on energy efficiency and sustainability.
