Zayed Sustainability Prize announces names of finalists
Zayed Sustainability Prize, the UAE’s leading competition for global sustainable development and humanitarian action, has announced the 2023 finalists following a review by a distinguished jury.
The winners will be announced at the Zayed Sustainability Prize awards ceremony on 1 December on the sidelines of the COP28 UAE conference, the 28th annual Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, taking place between 30 November and 12 December.
The Zayed Sustainability Prize jury selected 33 finalists from 5,213 entries received in six categories: health, food, energy, water, climate change and global high schools.
This represents a 15 per cent increase in entries over last year. The new climate change category, included in the competition to celebrate the UAE’s Year of Sustainable Development and the COP28 UAE conference, received 3,178 nominations.
The finalists represent SMEs, non-profit organisations and high schools from Brazil, Indonesia, Rwanda and 27 other countries, reflecting the growing credibility of the Competition to reward innovations that transcend national boundaries and address pressing global challenges.
Thanks to the competition’s winners, 11 million people have gained access to safe drinking water, 54 million homes have gained access to reliable energy, 3.5 million people have gained access to more nutritious food, and more than 728,000 people have gained access to affordable health care.
