AlDhabi AlMheiri fights climate change
AlDhabi AlMheiri, a 9-year-old Emirati girl who is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest author to publish a series of bilingual books, is encouraging young people to write about the environment and publishing their books for free.
AlDhabi, who runs local publisher Rainbow Chimney Educational Aids, has published more than 17 children’s books on the subject of nature, conservation and pollution.
“I decided to create an initiative that allows children to share ideas and learn more about what is really happening in the world in terms of climate change and global warming, and how we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions to lessen their impact on our beautiful Earth,” she added.
“By changing our habits, we could have a huge impact on the Earth,” she said. “Talking about the environment is very important because it helps children recognise the problem we face.”
She said the opportunity to publish their own books has been extremely encouraging for young people to get involved in environmental issues.
“These books allow students to express their ideas and show how they care about the environment,” she said.
In addition to this, AlDhabi AlMheiri has launched a first-of-its-kind interactive eco-club website that will introduce children to the environment through fun activities, games and videos. The small entrepreneur hopes the initiative will sensitise more than 10,000 children to the issue of climate change.
“The interactive activities and games on the platform have managed to draw children’s attention to the page and they continue to visit it several times a day,” she said. “The club also contains useful information and guidance on how children, because of their age, can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
