UAE launches search for Metaverse ‘idol’
A company in the United Arab Emirates has launched a global search for a Metaverse “idol” to participate in a competition to create a superstar from an avatar.
The contest has the same concept as the American Idol music competition, except that it will involve virtual characters.
Contestants from all over the world can register their characters to participate, and once registration is complete, the global audition will begin. Participants will not need to stand outside the studio for hours at a time to get an interview.
However, there are plans to hold live performances with audience participation in the future, just like American Idol. The winner of the contest is expected to become a global star in the digital space.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, had earlier endorsed the new phase of the Dubai Metaverse strategy to empower the digital economy and embrace future technologies.
Sheikh Hamdan said Dubai is set to become one of the world’s leading digital economies and a leading platform for tomorrow’s innovation. The Crown Prince also approved four key strategies to utilise Metaverse technology to deliver government services, as well as a full-scale study to identify the social benefits for the adoption of Metaverse technology.
Dubai also plans to launch a new economic metric called Metaverse gross product. The new strategy will boost Dubai’s economy by US$ 4bn and provide jobs for more than 40,000 people.
