Sultan Al Neyadi gets ministerial portfolio
Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, 42, who completed a six-month mission to the ISS, has been appointed as Minister of State for Youth Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, commenting on the appointment, said Sultan Al Neyadi is most familiar with youth-related issues.
“Sultan is an astronaut, holds a PhD, has served his country in the military and in the space sector, served humanity in the scientific field and became the first Arab to go into outer space and spend 6 months orbiting the Earth,” the UAE Vice President wrote.
According to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the new minister is best acquainted with youth issues and will be able to successfully promote the interests of the younger generation. At the same time, he will continue his activities in space exploration.
On 4 September 2023, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, congratulated astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi on his successful return to Earth after a six-month mission to the ISS.
Sultan Al Neyadi travelled to the ISS in March 2023, the father of six became the first Arab and the first Muslim to perform a spacewalk. After returning to the UAE, he toured schools, universities and government departments to speak about his space journey.
