Futuristic transport is on its way in Dubai

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed two memoranda of understanding to develop innovative transport systems on the sidelines of the Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF).

The projects represent the future of the city’s transport infrastructure, bringing high-speed travel pods and solar-powered rail buses to the emirate’s roads.

Memoranda have been signed with Urban-Mass Company, based in the UK, and RAIL BUS Inc. based in the US. The companies specialise in the development, design and manufacture of zero-emission transport systems.

Abdul Mohsen Kalbat, CEO of the RTA’s railway agency, said: “The signing of the MoUs is part of the RTA’s strategic plans to reach out to leading companies and specialist organisations in the field to identify and adopt best practice.”

The RTA is currently exploring a number of innovations in transport systems, including the world’s first transport system called Floc Duo Rail, which has dual tracks to allow transport units to move quickly and efficiently in urban areas. The system operates without a driver, using electric power.

The second new system, “Urban Mass,” involves vehicles travelling on a bridge equipped with solar panels. These panels ensure that the system runs smoothly. The grid also features a modern design, and offers the advantage of lower cost compared to similar transport systems.

This partnership not only signifies a leap towards a greener future, but also reinforces Dubai’s leadership position as the best city to live and travel in.
