UAE tops UN gender equality ranking
The United Arab Emirates topped the UN regional gender equality ranking and ranked seventh in the global ranking. Thus, the UN has rewarded the UAE for its efforts to achieve gender balance.
It is worth noting that back in 2022, the UAE was ranked 11th in the rating, and in 2015 it was in 49th place. The UAE’s achievement was revealed during the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women held in New York.
The event was attended by the UAE Gender Balance Council. Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed Al Maktoum, president of the Council, said the new rankings in global reports reflect the UAE’s strengthening position as a global and regional model of gender balance.
She said the close partnership between all government departments and the co-operation of the private sector played a key role in achieving the new heights.
The UAE’s Gender Balance Strategy 2022-2026 includes four pillars and key objectives: economic participation and entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, well-being and quality of life, protection, and global leadership and partnership.
The leadership’s support for women and its belief in the importance of their role in development and shaping the future has earned the UAE a prestigious position in international reports and global competitiveness indicators related to women’s empowerment and gender balance.
