Eid Al Fitr begins in the UAE on 10 April
In the United Arab Emirates, April 9, 2024 will be the last day of the holy month of Ramadan, with the religious festival of Eid Al Fitr beginning on Wednesday, April 10, the International Astronomical Centre said.
On the evening of 9 April, the UAE’s Moon Observing Committee will reconvene to witness the appearance of a new crescent moon in the sky. Ramadan will thus last 30 days this year.
Anyone who sees a young crescent moon in the sky should call 02 692 1166. It is worth noting that the Moon Observation Committee includes astronomers, judicial officials and advisers to the UAE’s Islamic authorities.
The fact that Eid Al Fitr will begin in the United Arab Emirates on 10 April was announced earlier by Ibrahim Al Jarwan, head of the UAE Astronomical Society. Such conclusions were based on astronomical calculations, he said.
Eid al-Fitr translates to “Feast of Unfaithfulness” and is one of the most important holidays in the Islamic calendar. During Ramadan, Muslims devote time to fasting, prayers and charity. The last night of the holy month is marked by special evening prayers.
On the first day of the holiday, families often gather for festive prayers, exchange greetings, wear new clothes, give gifts to children and share festive meals.
