Solar-powered transport could be launched in Dubai
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority is teaming up with US-based RAILBUS Inc to develop a futuristic solar-powered transport system. The parties have already signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect.
The strategic partnership, as specified, represents a major milestone towards revolutionising urban mobility and underscores the parties’ shared commitment to sustainable transport solutions.
The MoU paves the way for collaboration in the development and implementation of innovative, environmentally friendly transport technologies in Dubai.
Dubai will leverage RAILBUS’ expertise in solar-powered transport technologies to improve the public transport network.
In addition, the goals of environmental sustainability and carbon reduction in the transport sector will be achieved. Pilot projects are planned to demonstrate the benefits of the RAILBUS system.
In January 2024, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for the development of innovative transport systems.
The MoUs were signed with UK-based Urban-Mass Company and RAILBUS Inc. The companies specialise in the development, design and manufacture of zero-emission transport systems.
The authority is currently exploring a number of innovations in transport systems, including the world’s first transport system called Floc Duo Rail, which has dual tracks to allow transport units to move quickly and efficiently in urban areas. The system operates without a driver, utilising electric power.
