Aptera Motors to launch solar car for UAE
US-based Aptera Motors will release a special version of its solar-powered three-wheeled electric car for the United Arab Emirates.
The California-based solar electric vehicle manufacturer has announced its entry into the UAE market. Deliveries of the exclusive Aptera Union (or Etihad) Edition model will begin in 2026, with a total of 53 units scheduled to be delivered.
The Emirati version of the solar-powered electric car will get a golden carbon fibre body colour, lift-up doors, keyless entry and special solar panels to help prevent the interior from overheating.
Steve Fambrough, co-founder and co-CEO of Aptera Motors, said he sees “huge potential for solar mobility and sustainable transport to flourish” in the UAE. A starter version of the solar car was unveiled in the US in early 2023.
Earlier in April, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority teamed up with US-based RAILBUS Inc to develop a futuristic solar-powered transport system. The parties have already signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect.
The MoU paves the way for co-operation in the development and implementation of innovative, environmentally friendly transport technologies in Dubai. Dubai will use RAILBUS’ expertise in solar-powered transport technologies to improve the public transport network.
In addition, the goals of environmental sustainability and carbon reduction in the transport sector will be achieved. Pilot projects are planned to demonstrate the benefits of the RAILBUS system.
