UAEV

UAEV launched in UAE

UAEV, the first fully government-owned electric vehicle (EV) charging network, has been officially launched in Abu Dhabi. The network covers all seven emirates.

A joint venture between the UAE’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) plans to install 100 fast charging stations by the end of this year, and increase the number to 1,000 by 2030.

The initiative will reduce CO2 emissions by 100,000 tonnes by 2030, equivalent to planting 1.8 million trees.

The 160kW fast charging points will be available to all members of the public, including taxi drivers, and will be located at strategic locations across the UAE.

Use of the stations will be free until the end of the year, with pricing to be determined later by the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. The government will support those who have already purchased electric vehicles and make the prospect of switching to this environmentally friendly transport attractive.

The authorities said, “We will make it easy for users to charge their cars while they go about their daily business. We will focus on fast and ultra-fast charging solutions. We believe this is critical to accelerate the adoption of EVs in the UAE. These advanced charging capabilities will fulfil customer demand for speed and convenience, making electric vehicle ownership more attractive and practical.”

In addition, a 24-hour customer service centre will be opened and an app will be created with all the necessary information on the location of charging points.

“Electric vehicles are the future of global mobility. Our society is becoming increasingly environmentally and ecologically conscious. Residents want more choice, and to play an active and positive role in a more sustainable future,” said Sharif Al Olama, Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum and Chairman of UAEV.
