RTA launches competition with US$ 3 million top prize
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the start of registration for the 4th edition of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport 2025 with a grand prize of US$ 3 million.
The challenge of the competition is to create multiple integrated transport systems in a single neighbourhood to enable commuters to use different modes of self-driving transport.
Participants must ensure that their solution includes the integration of at least two of the following modes of autonomous transport: taxis, shuttles, buses, drones, marine transport and aviation.
According to the competition’s official website, all modes of transport in the proposed solution must meet SAE Level 3 autonomy levels.
The competition is part of the RTA’s strategy to meet the government’s ambition to make 25 per cent of all trips in Dubai autonomous by 2030, as announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
All leading companies with expertise in autonomous transport and mobility integration are invited to participate. Applicants can register online at: https://sdchallenge.awardsplatform.com.
The names of the finalists will be announced in October 2024 and the winning company will be unveiled in September 2025 during the World Congress on Self-Driving Transport in Dubai. The winning company will receive a US$ 3 million prize.
