Dubai to open its first 24-hour beach
Dubai Municipality has announced plans to build the first floating pedestrian bridge in the Al Mamzar neighbourhood and improve a new 24-hour night beach in Jumeirah 1.
The projects are estimated to cost AED 355m (US$ 96.6m) and the work is expected to be completed within 18 months. The works will take place on 5.7 kilometres of coastline between the two existing beaches.
The pedestrian floating bridge will be 200 metres long and there will be 5km of walkways connecting the two beaches. The plan provides for the improvement of an 11-kilometre ‘green’ and jogging path.
In just a year and a half, Dubai residents and visitors will enjoy 10 new beach, fitness and barbecue areas, more than 1,400 car parking spaces and high-tech amenities such as Wi-Fi and video surveillance.
Cafes, shops and water sports operators are expected to occupy the beach spaces. Facilities will include toilets, showers and changing rooms, and 10 entertainment and children’s play areas are also planned.
The first 24-hour beach equipped for night swimming will be 300 metres long. These projects support Dubai’s goals to improve the quality of life for residents and tourists, as outlined in the Economic Agenda 2033 and the Master Development Plan 2040.
