Pilgrims ‘corridor’ opened at Dubai Airport
Dubai International Airport has set up special check-in and passport control counters for Islamic pilgrims travelling to Hajj.
Thanks to a specially equipped separate ‘corridor’ pilgrims will not be stuck in the crowd that invariably forms on the departure from Dubai in the run-up to the Eid al-Adha holiday and summer holidays.
According to the airport authority, the ‘corridor’ starts at the airport entrance and ends at the boarding gate. Airlines carrying pilgrims requested the special gate facilities almost two months ago.
Each airline has a dedicated terminal and zone: in Terminal 3 it is Zone 3, in Terminal 1 for Saudi Airlines it is Zone 6 and for Flynas it is Zone 4. More than 6,200 pilgrims will fly out of the UAE, of which 4,600 will depart from Dubai International Airport.
In total, Dubai’s air harbour will cater to more than 100,000 foreign pilgrims. The Hajj, the annual Islamic pilgrimage, begins on Friday, 14 June. All pilgrims are advised to arrive at the airport at least four hours before the scheduled departure time.
Before departure, Hajj participants will have their blood sugar and blood pressure measured and will be given umbrellas and water bottles. Passengers need to carry their passports, Hajj permits and vaccination cards. They will start returning on 19 June.
