Dubai Mall to become the most visited place on Earth

By the end of 2024, Dubai Mall will strengthen its leading position in the ranking of the most visited places in the world, as the shopping and entertainment complex has already served 57 million visitors in the first half of the year.

For comparison, Dubai’s largest mall recorded 105 million visits in 2023, becoming the most attractive place on Earth, and 52 million guests in the first half of last year. Thus, the shopping centre has already broken its own record.

In the first six months of 2024, Dubai Mall recorded an increase in sales – they grew by 8-15% (depending on the brand) compared to the same period last year.

In June 2024, Emaar Properties, one of Dubai’s largest property developers, announced a Dh1.5bn (US$400m) expansion of the flagship Dubai Mall. After the expansion, the famous mall will gain 240 new shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes.

The project will attract new visitors and expand the range of goods. As it is known, Dubai Mall is the most popular attraction in the world – last year the number of visitors reached 105 million people.

The expansion will allow the mall to remain at the forefront of global innovation and culture, and Dubai will strengthen its status as the world’s leading tourist destination. Dubai Mall, which opened in 2008, covers an area of more than 1.2 million square metres and is among the largest in the world.

It currently features more than 1,200 retail outlets, including two leading department stores – Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale’s – as well as 200 international restaurants. Some of its attractions include the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, the 24-screen Reel Cinema, KidZania Dubai, Play DXB, Dubai Ice Rink, Ekart and the Zabeel sports section.

Last year, Emaar’s recurring revenues from shopping centres, hospitality, leisure, entertainment and commercial leasing grew more than 26% to Dh9.2 billion.
