Ruler of Dubai celebrates 75th Birthday
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai celebrated his 75th Birthday on 15 July 2024. Under the leadership of a visionary leader, Dubai has seen continuous growth and has strengthened its position on the world stage.
Born on 15 July 1949, Sheikh Mohammed was the third of four sons of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The future ruler of Dubai spent his childhood in Shindagah in the Sheikh Saeed House, which has now been given heritage status.
Sheikh Mohammed’s education began at the age of four, learning the basics of Arabic and Islam. In 1955, Sheikh Mohammed started at Al Ahmadiyya School, where he studied Arabic grammar, English, maths, geography and history. The school has now become a museum dedicated to education.
His Highness took over the government of Dubai in 2006, and from the first days set about transforming the Emirate into a world-class centre. Sheikh Mohammed has spearheaded the creation of a number of international businesses, including Emirates Airline, the Jumeirah Group tourism holding company and conglomerate DP World.
His ambitious initiatives such as the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City have attracted international companies and made Dubai a leading financial, technology and innovation centre. Dubai continues to develop in line with the Ruler-approved Master Plan 2040.
Sheikh Mohammed favours social development and empowerment of Emiratis. He prioritises education, healthcare, public infrastructure development and environmental care.
The Ruler of Dubai plays an important role in shaping the UAE’s foreign policy, strengthening diplomatic ties and promoting humanitarian initiatives. He is not only a visionary leader, but also an outstanding poet, a talented sportsman, an avid rider and a humanitarian.
