Abu Dhabi launches flights to space
Already in 2025 from the capital of the United Arab Emirates it will be possible to fly to space, the cost of the trip will start from 600 thousand dirhams, said the founder and CEO of the European space company EOS-X Space Kemel Harbachi.
He said the flight programme is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of next year on Spaceship One manned capsules. They will be tested in conjunction with Spain’s National Institute of Aerospace Technology (Inta).
The pressurised EOS-X Space capsules will be able to accommodate up to eight people, including the pilot. They will ascend into the stratosphere in a helium balloon and will reach its boundary at an altitude of 40,000 metres, allowing tourists to enjoy spectacular views of space, the blue halo and the Earth during the five-hour journey.
By comparison, a Blue Origin rocket flight lasts just 11 minutes. The Spanish company said passengers do not need extensive preparation, and the tour will also include a tailor-made week-long programme with cultural, gastronomic, regenerative and wellness activities.
Meanwhile, a large-scale spaceport with a hotel complex is planned for Yas Island – an ultra-luxury product the company believes has around 20 million potential customers worldwide. The global space tourism market is estimated to be worth more than US$ 9bn.
