Dubai launches programme to support mental health of people
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and UAE Minister of Defence, has launched a community mental health support programme to help residents cope with the challenges of everyday life in the metropolis.
The programme will play a key role in the implementation of Dubai Social Strategy 33, which aims to make the emirate the best place on earth to live, work and visit by 2033. The project will identify early symptoms of mental health issues.
There will also be an increased focus on the mental health of students in schools, and those in need will have easier access to mental health care. As a result, Dubai will become one of the world’s leading destinations for a quality and healthy life.
As mental health is an integral part of a healthy and prosperous society, the concept of mental health will help improve Dubai’s unique lifestyle and continue the harmonious development of its communities.
Through the implementation of the new programme, the emirate will become one of the top three cities in the world in terms of living standards and one of the top 10 in terms of life expectancy. The project will include 10 initiatives – they will be implemented over the next 5 years and will cover all sectors of society.
In particular, a number of studies will be conducted to assess the needs of people with disabilities, the elderly, children and those suffering from chronic diseases.
