Dubai launches food delivery robots
Three autonomous delivery robots will soon start serving all restaurants and shops in The Sustainable City neighbourhood. No launch date has been announced yet, but it is already known that the robots will deliver food and groceries to residents in less than half an hour.
The delivery robots, developed by a team of Dubai-based roboticists and engineers, are equipped with several advanced features including a real-time tracking control system, an internal order fulfilment system and delivery operations, and a secure compartment for goods accessible only to the customer.
The innovative robots will be able to provide fast and safe delivery within a defined area. They will be able to navigate the pavements on their own, locating charging stations as needed and eliminating the need for human intervention.
The initiative supports the Dubai authorities’ mission to make 25 per cent of journeys in the emirate autonomous by 2030. Several other neighbourhoods in Dubai, such as The Silicon Oasis, have also tested robots.
According to the director of Dubai Future Labs, these robots have been designed to provide deliveries within 30 minutes, while being fully equipped to navigate the neighbourhood safely and efficiently and capable of identifying charging stations, eliminating the need for human intervention.
