UAE schools get ready for school year
UAE schools are preparing to welcome students back after the summer holidays by sending out welcome packs, setting up new websites for the convenience of parents and negotiating with other schools to change the start time of classes to reduce the amount of traffic on the roads on the first day of school.
Schools across the country will reopen on Monday, 26 August, after a nearly two-month summer break that began on Monday, 8 July.
The head of a school in Dubai said that they have already prepared a new detailed website for parents, which is part of a ‘welcome pack’ sent to all parents before school starts. In addition, all students will receive an information pack containing their app and personal account logins a week before school starts.
As the roads are always very busy on the first day of school, schools are actively trying to address the traffic congestion. Schools have allocated start times as well as parking zones to each other. This information has been sent out to parents along with welcome packs.
Meanwhile, school principals are advising parents to gradually re-establish their children’s routines at least two weeks before school starts to make it easier for them to return to school. During the holidays, children often get used to a different sleeping pattern and this can make it difficult to return to the school routine.
In addition, schools also introduce a special open day exclusively for new pupils, during which they can explore the campus with other newcomers.
School staff talk to new families about the specifics of a particular institution and answer frequently asked questions, while those families whose children have joined the school for a long time will receive reminders and information guides to help ease the transition back after the summer holidays.
