UAE airlines issue warning for travellers

United Arab Emirates airlines have issued an important warning for customers planning to travel to Japan in the coming days. Typhoon Ampil is looming over the East Asian country and is expected to cause huge disruptions to aviation and other modes of transport.

Passengers are advised to keep an eye on weather forecasts and check their flight information before heading to the airport.

Etihad Airways said it is closely monitoring the development of Typhoon Ampil, which is expected to affect operations at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT) on 16 August 2024. Etihad flights to and from Tokyo were operating as scheduled yesterday, but delays or disruptions are possible.

‘We recommend guests flying to or from Tokyo to check our Flight Tracker regularly for the latest updates. The safety and comfort of guests and crew is our top priority,’ an Etihad Airways spokesperson said in a statement.

Representatives of Dubai’s flagship carrier, Emirates airline, said their flights were operating as scheduled as of Thursday afternoon, but they were also closely monitoring developments.

It is worth noting that Japan Airlines on Thursday announced the cancellation of 191 domestic and international flights on August 16 due to the typhoon. ‘For August 16 after 12 noon, all flights to/from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport have been cancelled. All JAL domestic flight counters at the airport’s Terminal 1 will be closed after 12 noon. Flight decisions will be made depending on the latest weather information,’ the company said in a statement on Thursday.

Another airline, ANA, also said it would cancel 280 flights on Friday, affecting more than 60,000 passengers. In addition, train services will be halted in Japan on Friday.
