15th Ice Warrior Challenge takes place in Dubai
Ice sports enthusiasts, experienced athletes and novices, united by a common sense of excitement, gathered at Ski Dubai for the 15th edition of the Ice Warrior Challenge. The event, which took place on Sunday morning, transformed the Mall of the Emirates into a winter themed 3.5 kilometre course with more than 20 obstacles.
Participants had to complete a range of challenges including climbing walls, crawling under a net, rolling in snow and even swimming in cold water. The event started at 6.30am, with participants starting in groups, each with their own number and timing chip, all aiming to complete the course to earn medals and commemorative T-shirts.
Participants included teams from government agencies, such as the General Directorate of Residents and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) team. ‘The water obstacle was the most challenging for me,’ said a GDRFA representative, ’Jumping into icy water is not something you do every day, but we did well and still made it to the finish line!’
Since its inception in 2010, the Ice Warrior Challenge has become one of the most popular sporting events in Dubai. This year’s tournament attracted more than 500 participants from 65 countries. Participants overcame various challenges in temperatures as low as -4°C.
