Ajman taxi fleet is now eco-friendly
Ajman’s taxi fleet is now 100 per cent eco-friendly vehicles. There are now 2,274 vehicles in the emirate, which have already completed more than 8.5 million journeys.
These vehicles include gas, electric and hybrid models. All of them help to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. This significant achievement by the Ajman Transport Authority emphasises the efforts towards sustainability and preserving the environment.
According to Omar Mohammed Lutah, Director General of Ajman Transport Authority, continuous innovation and well thought out plans have contributed to achieving this goal ahead of schedule. He added that the directorate has extended all possible support to taxi companies to encourage them to join the initiative.
The Authority pioneered modern eco-friendly technologies when hybrid vehicles were introduced to the taxi market in the emirate in 2015. Taxi companies were supported and encouraged to use such vehicles. In 2022, the transport authority added electric vehicles to the taxi fleet in the emirate, which have proven to be an effective option in the transport market.
In recent years, the country’s national transport strategy has increasingly focused on environmentally friendly vehicles. This approach reflects the UAE’s overarching vision to improve quality of life while minimising environmental impact.
