RTA unveils Floc Duo transport
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiled the innovative Floc Duo transport at Gitex Global 2024, which kicked off on Monday.
Floc Duo can operate on roads, tunnels and flyovers, making it individually adaptable to the city’s needs. Residents will be able to move around in autonomous electric pods that glide smoothly above the ground.
The pods can operate individually or in groups, connecting and disconnecting depending on real-time traffic.
According to Hassan Al Mutawa, director of railway maintenance, the intelligent system is very easy to use. ‘It is inexpensive and quick to build,’ he said, ’Once manufactured in a factory, the system can simply be assembled locally within the city. No special infrastructure needs to be built for this. It is currently a prototype and we are testing it with the manufacturing company. Once it is mature enough, we can implement it in Dubai.’
As Mr Al Mutawa explained, this could be extremely useful for busy cities such as Dubai. ‘This system combines new technology and efficiency,’ he said, ’It runs on driverless electricity and can help provide solutions to avoid traffic congestion.
In addition, the system can connect with different modes of transport: metro, trams and even buses. It can also be used to provide end-to-end transport. In this way, it works both ways – for through-transportation and to support basic public transport.
