Car stickers in UAE carry hefty fines
Many residents of the United Arab Emirates are unaware that placing stickers on cars carries hefty fines.
According to Regulation No. 178 of 2017 on Traffic Management Rules and Procedures, there is a fine of AED 500 for writing phrases and placing stickers on vehicles without authorisation. However, reflective stickers on the rear of heavy vehicles are mandatory and failure to display them can also result in a fine of AED 500.
Some residents have faced a similar problem. For example, a young driver named Abdullah bin Nasir placed a sticker on the rear window of his car, which cost him only AED 10. When the police stopped him for a routine check, Abdullah was fined AED 500.
Another UAE resident, originally from Asia, shared a similar unfortunate experience on social media. He also received a hefty fine for placing a sticker on his fuel tank cap.
It is also worth noting that this applies to all types of stickers, whether photo or transparent, on any part of a car, including those that may hide the car’s number plate, the driver’s face or any other details, and may interfere with traffic police.
The only stickers authorised by the authorities are advertisements by companies to promote goods and services after obtaining permission from the authorities. The federal law is in force in all emirates.
