UAE team wins 42 medals at World Championships

The United Arab Emirates national team completed its participation in the World Jiu-Jitsu Championships held in Heraklion, Greece, winning a total of 42 medals: 11 gold, 13 silver and 18 bronze.

On the final day of the tournament, UAE boys and girls shone in the U18 and U21 categories, winning eight medals, including two gold, four silver and two bronze.

In the U18 boys’ U18 category, Ahmed Andis won a gold medal at 69kg, Tani Al Mehairi won a silver medal at the same weight (69kg), Abdulaziz Saud Al Akidi won a bronze medal at 77kg and Ali Al Tunayji won a bronze medal at 85kg.

In the U21 girls’ category, Mariam Al Ali won gold at 45kg, while Balkiz Al Hashmi (48kg), Aisha Alshamsi (45kg) and Mahra Mahfouz (70kg) won silver.

Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, praised the outstanding achievements of the athletes at the World Championships, noting the Federation’s effective programmes for the development of the sport, which are backed by the continuous support of the country’s leadership.

He noted that the UAE national team achieved significant results at the tournament, in addition to medals, stressing that the Federation develops the talents of young athletes who represent the future of sports with their professionalism and commitment.

He emphasised that this achievement reflects the fruits of hard work and thoughtful planning, and shows the promising future of jiu-jitsu in the UAE.
