Abu Dhabi Art gets ready to open its doors
Abu Dhabi Art 2024, which will be held at Manarat Al Saadiyat from 20-24 November, is preparing to open its doors to guests. This year’s fair will feature 102 regional and international galleries from 31 countries. Last year, 92 galleries participated in the fair.
In the seven sections presented at the fair, which will cover different aspects of contemporary art, three are new. The first, entitled Something Bold, Something New, will focus on contemporary regional artists. The second, Collectors Salon, will be a place where galleries can present artefacts, historical objects, manuscripts and works of art. The third, Silk Road: Drifting Identities, will feature galleries and artists from Central Asia and the Caucasus.
The exhibition will feature prominent artists who have played a significant role in the evolution of styles and artistic practices in the region. These include Palestinian artists Emily Fanous Azar and Nabila Hilmi, Egyptian artist and activist Inji Aflatoun, Lebanese artist Halim Jourdak, Saudi artist Sami Al Marzougi, and Tunisian artists Ali Ben Salem and Rafiq El Kamel.
Innovative Emirati artist Mohammed Kazem will create the visual style of the fair. According to the director of Abu Dhabi Art, through the design, Kazem aims to remind visitors that we are all interconnected – through our geography, the sea and trade.
The director also highlights Lebanese artist Raed Yassin’s installation titled ‘Urban Mirage’, consisting of 130 vintage Beirut shop signs. The work is a haunting remembrance of the devastation the city has experienced.
The fair will also focus on the connections and interactions between the Arab world and other cultures and countries through art.
