Abu Dhabi to build Moon Village
A Moon Village will be built in Abu Dhabi in the summer of 2025 to host events to mark International Moon Day. Such plans were announced by the Moon Village Association (MVA), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the development of the lunar economy.
Thus, in July, the capital of the United Arab Emirates will celebrate the main lunar holiday, and in November, the MVA seminar and symposium will be held. The partnership reflects the UAE’s growing influence in the global space industry. The country is known to invest heavily in space exploration technology.
International Moon Day is celebrated annually on 20 July. The event commemorates the date of the first human landing on the Moon as part of the Apollo 11 lunar mission on 20 July 1969.
International Moon Day was proclaimed to honour the achievements of all nations in lunar exploration. It aims to raise public awareness of the sustainable exploration and use of the Moon.
The Moon is the Earth’s only natural satellite and the closest celestial body to the Earth. It moves around the Earth at an average speed of 1.02 kilometres per second in a counterclockwise elliptical orbit.
Due to the ellipticity of the orbit, the distance from the Earth to the Moon is constantly changing. The average distance is 384.4 thousand kilometres. The period of rotation of the Moon around its axis is almost exactly the same as the period of the Moon’s orbit around the Earth relative to the stars, equal to 27.3 days. Therefore, the Moon always faces the Earth with the same hemisphere.
The Moon has a great influence on the Earth itself and life on it. The Moon’s gravity attracts the Earth, causing predictable rises and falls in sea level known as tides.
The Moon is devoid of an atmosphere and hydrosphere and has retained on its surface traces of processes that took place in the solar system billions of years ago, so studying its surface allows us to draw conclusions about the evolution of the solar system.
