Arab Hope Makers

Arab Hope Makers competition launched by the Ruler of Dubai

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the launch of the fifth Arab Hope Makers competition, which awards a prize of one million dirhams to people who have made humanitarian contributions to society. Sheikh Mohammed addressed the public via social media, clarifying the conditions for participation and encouraging people to nominate themselves and others for the honour.

‘Humanity thrives on hope, and communities move forward based on its very strength. The toughest challenges become easier in the face of true hope. When some sow despair and frustration in our region, we spread optimism and peace,’ the leader emphasised.

Sheikh Mohammed noted that in every locality there are people who have dedicated themselves to helping the community. ‘We are looking for them to honour, appreciate and create examples for all. God willing, we are launching a new cycle of Arab Hope Makers to honour them and inspire people to do good,’ he added.

To participate in the competition, candidates must fulfil certain conditions. All participants must have a background in humanitarian or social work, have a positive outlook on life, and be able to read and write. Ruler said anyone who sees the good in themselves or others can apply through the website http://arabhopemakers.com. ‘We ask God to always guide us on the path of spreading optimism, positivity and hope for a better tomorrow in our region which has experienced many hardships,’ the leader concluded.

Sheikh Mohammed also recalled past winners who have made significant contributions to communities around the world. In 2017, the winner was Nawal Al Suhi from Morocco, who helped save the lives of more than 200,000 refugees.

In 2018, the best was Mahmoud Wahid from Egypt for sheltering homeless elderly people on the streets of Cairo. In 2020, the winner was Emirati Ahmed Al Falasi for his mission to renovate Kenya General Hospital in Mombasa, turning it into one of the country’s most advanced medical facilities.

The 2024 winner of the prestigious award was Iraqi pharmacist Tala Al Khalil, who cares for hundreds of children with cancer and special needs. Three other finalists also received Dh1 million each to continue their humanitarian work.
