More than 800 AI technology companies operate in Dubai

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, said the emirate is at the ‘forefront of technological transformation’ after claiming that more than 800 AI technology companies are doing business in the city.

Sheikh Hamdan said Dubai’s ‘advanced infrastructure, progressive standards and innovative services’ are key factors in attracting leading companies from the sector.

He stated the important role of AI technology in shaping the future after reviewing a recent study on the pace of development of the fintech sector.

‘Today I read a study conducted by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI), which showed that more than 800 AI technology companies are doing business in Dubai,’ the crown prince of Dubai wrote in a post on social media X.

The report highlights the rapid growth of the AI technology sector in Dubai, as well as a marked increase in the number and scale of companies specialising in AI-based software development.

The report indicates that nearly three-quarters of such companies are SMEs, with two-thirds of them choosing Dubai as their headquarters.

The crown prince of Dubai emphasised the importance of public-private partnerships for the development of the AI ecosystem in Dubai, noting that the emirate’s strategic initiatives and plans in this area have been instrumental in attracting significant investment in AI technology development.

In November, Sheikh Hamdan unveiled plans to train one million people in AI. He announced them at the UAE government’s annual meeting in Abu Dhabi after meeting with the president of Microsoft.

In the same month, the UAE was ranked fifth in the Global Vibrancy Tool 2024, indicating its leadership in AI technology.

In June, the crown prince of Dubai initiated the implementation of a roadmap that aims to help attract leading AI technology companies and professionals to Dubai. The AI Roadmap aims to improve the overall quality of life in the emirate by encouraging the spread of AI technologies.
