Dubai Police rescues five tourists from a mountain trap

Dubai Police conducted a successful operation to rescue five hikers trapped on the mountain slopes of Hatta. The group of outdoor enthusiasts encountered difficulties on the dangerous terrain and were unable to climb down on their own. The rescue operation involved two pilots, two emergency personnel and a navigator from Dubai Police’s Air Wing unit.

Rescuers used a helicopter equipped with a hoist to lower paramedics to the tourists’ location. The rescue team confirmed that the tourists were safe and were given the necessary assistance.

According to pilot Colonel Khalfan Salem Al Mazroui, acting director of the Air Wing Centre, a distress call was received at the command and control centre. ‘The Air Wing team quickly dispatched the helicopter to the tourists’ location. Given the difficult conditions and the lack of a safe landing site, the crew used a hoist to lift the people on board after a thorough assessment of the situation,’ Colonel Al Mazroui explained. He added that the operation was carried out efficiently, ensuring the safety of all involved.

Colonel Al Mazroui reminded tourists and residents of the emirate to call 999 in an emergency or use the SOS function on the Dubai Police app.

Mishal Julfar, Director General of Dubai Ambulance Service, noted that paramedics, together with the Air Wing unit and the Brave team, successfully rescued people trapped in the difficult conditions of the Hatta Mountains during the trek. He emphasised that the success of this mission was made possible through the teamwork of the staff, which demonstrates the willingness of their teams to handle incidents even in the most difficult conditions. This is especially important in light of the increased number of visitors to Hatta during the winter festival.

The rescued tourists expressed their sincere gratitude to Dubai Police for their quick response and professionalism, noting the team’s expertise and dedication in ensuring their safety.
