Smart barriers on the way from Dubai to Hatta
Smart barriers will be installed on the motorway from Dubai to Hatta, as well as on a number of other key road sections in the desert. According to the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, the aim of the initiative is to ensure a smoother traffic flow, as well as to prevent stray animals from entering the highways.
As a result, Dubai authorities expect to reduce the number of accidents and road accidents. The authority reminded that smart barriers will appear in various neighbourhoods of Dubai in 2025.
Similar initiatives are in place in other emirates. For example, in Ajman, an intelligent monitoring system was activated last year to identify traffic offenders. Cameras with artificial intelligence technology were installed on 26 road sections.
The aim of implementing these advanced monitoring solutions is to further reduce the number of road accidents and improve overall road safety for both drivers and pedestrians.
As a reminder, Dubai will launch a new flexible fare system at Salik toll booths in January 2025. The increased fare – AED 6 per single journey – will apply from 6am to 10am and from 4pm to 8pm.
The fares applicable from 10am to 4pm and 8pm to 1am will remain at AED 4. Fares under Salik will be free from 1am to 6am. On Sundays, the charge will also be AED 4, except on public holidays, special occasions or major events.
