Summer

Summer heat comes to the Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is experiencing a really hot summer, with daytime temperatures starting to rise to +45°C – particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It’s worth remembering that summer 2021 was the hottest in the history of the United Arab Emirates. Temperatures repeatedly soared to 51°C.

During the summer heat, health professionals recommend carrying a bottle of water with you at all times and drinking it regularly to avoid dehydration. Dizziness or headache, rapid pulse, fatigue, muscle cramps and dry mouth may be symptoms of heatstroke to watch out for.

Doctors point out that dehydration can lead to an increase in urinary tract diseases and the formation of kidney and ureter stones. They recommend drinking water with electrolytes or sports drinks to replenish the loss of salts and potassium excreted with sweat.

Consumption of vegetables, fruit and soups is also indicated during the summer heat, as these contain plenty of fluids. On the other hand, doctors recommend not exercising outdoors during the day and always use sun protection lotion with UVA-UVB protection when going outdoors. The best time to exercise is in the early morning or in the evening after 5pm.

Sports such as yoga, aerobics, zumba, pilates or exercises with weights are recommended indoors. As for clothing, natural fabrics should be worn, and you should cover your head with a hat or cap.
