Al Islami Foods sends food to the ISS
Dubai-based Al Islami Foods has sent food to the International Space Station to please Arab astronauts with homemade flavours. This included a traditional lamb roast with vegetables (saloon) arrived in Earth’s orbit.
Al Islami Foods specified that the product, which meets the culinary traditions of the United Arab Emirates, is easy to store in a non-gravity environment, and its appearance on the ISS was a source of particular pride for the manufacturer.
UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi began his six-month mission on the International Space Station on 4 March 2023. He arrived at the ISS on a Falcon 9 rocket, a journey that took almost a day.
The astronaut will conduct around 20 experiments commissioned by universities in the UAE, as well as research work commissioned by NASA and maintenance of the station.
On April 28, 2023, Sultan Al Neyadi became the first Arab to go into space. UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has already described the moment as a landmark event in the country’s space history.
Saudi astronauts Rayana Barnaoui and Ali Al Qarni are also on the ISS. In doing so, Rayana Barnaoui became the first Arab woman to orbit the Earth. The astronauts are to conduct 14 pioneering scientific experiments in microgravity, as well as three educational experiments with 12,000 Saudi students live.
