Abu Dhabi announces world’s biggest attraction
The world’s largest artificial wave pool will be opened on Hudayriat Island in Abu Dhabi by the end of 2023. In addition, Surf Abu Dhabi will feature the world’s largest barrel and the world’s longest surf ‘slope’.
The pool is expected to host major international surfing events, and can be used for training by beginners and professionals alike. Surf Abu Dhabi was part of Modon Properties’ master plan, which has planned a 51m sq ft development of the island.
The Velodrome Abu Dhabi is set to open on the island in 2025 and will become a major regional sports hub. Hudayriat is already home to the region’s first UCI Category 1 indoor cycling track. It will host international tournaments in the near future.
The cycle lane network will be 220 km long. In addition to Surf and Velodrome, Hudayriat Island is already a destination for sports enthusiasts, with Trail X, Bike Park and 321 Sports. The island will also have the largest urban park with an overpass for cyclists and an eco-farm. Tourists will be able to walk through the mangroves.
Hudayriyat Island sits in front of Al Bateen Beach and boasts a variety of entertainment options for day and night, from play areas and sports facilities to restaurants and glamping sites.
For the more active, there are football pitches, jogging and cycling tracks, basketball and tennis courts (including indoor), skate parks, an obstacle course and water sports. Hudayriat Island also boasts one of the largest beaches in Abu Dhabi.
Here you can sunbathe on soft sands, take a refreshing dip in the azure waters of the bay, have a delicious meal in a restaurant or snack bar, explore the historic and cultural attractions on the Heritage Trail and stay overnight in a luxury tented accommodation.
