Sharjah to Dubai 10 minutes faster

The journey from Sharjah to Dubai has become 10 minutes faster by road users due to the opening of two new traffic lanes on Ittihad Road and Al Taawun area.

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) said it has added one 500m lane on the Al Nahda Bridge connecting the two emirates in Al Taawun area, which faces heavy traffic volumes in the morning and evening.

The implementation of the new project will make life much easier for motorists living in Al Taawun, Al Khan and Al Majaz areas and travelling towards Ittihad Road and Sharjah Ring Road.

In addition, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has allowed motorists to use the road connecting Ittihad Road with Al Mamzar after entering the toll road section. Previously, this road was for public transport and taxis only.

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority has previously implemented a project to help reduce congestion on the border with Dubai. This involved the addition of a 600m lane to the Al Ittihad Highway, connected to the Khulafa Al Rashideen Bridge.

The lane has increased the capacity of the highway leading from Dubai to Sharjah at the Al Khan exit. Residents of Sharjah welcomed the widening of the road near Safeer Mall adding that it is now easier to access Al Majaz, Corniche and Rolla.

The new lane has also made life easier for motorists heading to industrial areas, towards King Faisal Road and Ajman. It is worth noting that Al Ittihad is a key artery linking Sharjah and Dubai, which suffers from congestion during peak hours.
