Ruler of Dubai takes a bicycle ride
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, took a bicycle ride along the Dubai Water Canal.
The 7-kilometre cycling route, which the UAE Prime Minister appeared on, is hugely popular with locals. Sheikh Mohammed travelled along the cycle track accompanied by Dubai government officials.
Last year, His Highness also tried out the new cycleway running along Jumeirah Beach. And in 2020, he took an evening bicycle ride around Dubai with a group of close associates.
In February 2023, the ruler of Dubai attended the fourth stage of the UAE Tour cycling race. Sheikh Mohammed, in the company of senior officials, greeted the passing athletes.
As previously reported, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority announced the opening of a new cycling tunnel in the Meydan neighbourhood, with a capacity of 800 two-wheelers per hour. The new tunnel has made the Meydan cycle path even more convenient for athletes and enthusiasts, with traffic now flowing smoothly. The tunnel is illuminated at night. It is planned that the length of bicycle lanes in Dubai will reach 819 kilometres by the end of 2026.
The government of Dubai encourages cycling and constantly builds new lanes for the city’s residents and tourists. It is worth recalling that the construction of the 93-kilometre climate-controlled THE LOOP highway for walking and cycling was recently announced. It is predicted that up to 3 million people will use it.
