Dubai completes unmanned delivery trial

A three-week trial of unmanned delivery of goods has ended in Dubai. The tests were conducted by Jeebly LLC, an Emirati logistics service provider, and Skye Air Mobility, an Indian company specialising in drone delivery.

The trials demonstrated a reliable and secure logistics network. The Skye Ship One drone involved in the unmanned delivery test is equipped with an innovative communication system, navigation system and numerous safety features, including collision avoidance technology and a parachute.

The tests were conducted in the DSO free zone. The area served as a real-world testing ground to demonstrate the capabilities of robotics and autonomous systems. The zone was created as part of the Dubai Unmanned Transport Programme, launched in November 2021 by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.

Ahmad Hassan Belkaizi, Executive Director of the Aviation Safety and Environment Sector at the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, said the success of the first trials is of great significance for the development of the commercial transport operations sector using drones.

Raman Pathak, CEO of Jeebly, emphasised that Dubai provides advanced infrastructure for testing new drone solutions. This research project demonstrates an efficient and eco-friendly solution for small to medium-sized parcel delivery, and is fully aligned with sustainability goals.

Ankit Kumar, founder and CEO of Skye Air, added that drones have the potential to transform the UAE’s logistics industry. Skye Ship One is India’s most trusted drone and has already completed more than 1,700 flights.
