Chanel exhibition takes place in Dubai

An exhibition of the fashion house Chanel is being held in Dubai. The event titled “A Journey into the Allure” is dedicated to the unique creative bond between three designers, Coco Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld and Virginie Viard. The exhibition kicked off on 12 October and will run until 22 October 2023.

The ten-day event, which the brand calls an installation rather than a conventional exhibition, offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in Chanel’s impeccable universe, where masculine style meets feminine glamour.

Emphasising the extraordinary DNA of a fashion house shaped over a century, the works of all three designers will be displayed alongside each other to show how unified Chanel’s vocabulary is. From the little black dress and tweed, to ruffles, bows and chiffon, all the pieces in the exhibition collectively make up Chanel’s design language.

There is a space dedicated to Chanel accessories such as quilted bags, two-colour shoes and multi-strand costume jewellery.

In addition to images from the archive, including Coco Chanel originals, the installation features photographs and footage from the 1961 film Last Year at Marienbad. Chanel designed the costumes for the film’s lead actress Delphine Seyrig.

The installation invites viewers to linger rather than rush, thus emphasising Chanel’s commitment to being timeless rather than chasing fashion trends.

It is worth noting that the Emirate was chosen as the second location for this show. Dubai is one of the 15 key destinations for Chanel. The installation, first presented in Hong Kong, has been redesigned to create a new version but remains an exhibition rather than a place where merchandise is sold. The exhibition will take each visitor on a journey through the luxurious French fashion world.
